LSU-Alabama was typical SEC football. Critics claimed it wasn’t very exciting but Saturday night’s ‘Game of the Century’ was just what SEC fans expected from these two teams: defense. It took special team miscues by Alabama to wrap up the game for LSU.

Let’s forget the rematch talk. Right after the game, people were talking about a possible rematch between LSU and Alabama in the title game. Can we put all of that talk to rest? Putting a one-loss Alabama over an undefeated team would do more damage to the BCS and increase the clamor for a playoff system.

Oklahoma State is the real thing. The Cowboys proved once again why they should be considered for a shot at the BCS championship. With three wins over ranked teams this season, Oklahoma State only needs to get past Oklahoma on Dec. 3 for a chance to play for a national title.

Case Keenum, Kellen Moore continue to shine. Both quarterbacks had record-setting days on Saturday with Keenum becoming the NCAA’s all-time career leader in passing yards and Moore becoming the winningest quarterback in NCAA history. Best of all, both currently are leading their respective team to undefeated seasons.

Stanford set for showdown with Oregon. It may not have the hype of the ‘Game of the Century’ but Stanford’s national title hopes rest in beating the Ducks at home this weekend. The game could also cement  Andrew Luck’s chances as this season’s Heisman Trophy winner.

South Carolina is in serious trouble. A disappointing loss to Arkansas dropped the Gamecocks behind Georgia in the SEC East race. With only Florida left on the conference schedule, Steve Spurrier’s bunch must hope Georgia stumbles for the chance to defend its division title.

Rick Neuheisel’s seat got a little cooler. The fourth-year coach has been on the hot seat most of this season but a huge win over division leader Arizona State Saturday puts the Bruins in the driver’s seat for the Pac-12 South title.

Florida continues to be a rebuilding project. The Gators are only three years removed from their last national title but my how they have fallen. New coach Will Muschamp continues to find consistency with a very young team.

The Big East isn’t as bad as it looks. Cincinnati leads the league at 7-1 and a 10-win season isn’t out of the questions while as a whole the conference could have as many as seven teams bowl eligible at the end of the season.

Don’t overlook Iowa. The Hawkeyes shook off last week’s disappointing loss to Minnesota to beat a ranked Michigan team. Iowa now controls its own destiny in the Legends Division with games against Michigan State and Nebraska still left on the schedule.
